How is the course carried out?

The PADI Advanced Freediver course consists of three main phases:
  • Knowledge development on advanced freediving techniques and equipment.
  • Confined water session to learn stretching and relaxation techniques as well as refining static and dynamic apnoea. Objective: 2 minutes and 30 seconds static apnoea (2 minutes for freedivers under 18 years of age) and 50 metres dynamic apnoea (40 metres for freedivers under 18 years of age).
  • Open water sessions to practise deeper free immersion and constant weight descents, together with additional buddy procedures and rescue techniques. Objective: 20-metre constant weight freedive (15 metres for freedivers under 18 years of age).
PADI Advanced Freediver Course

Course requirements

  • Be 15 years of age.
  • Be certified as a PADI Freediver (or equivalent certification from another freediver organisation).
  • Have completed a PADI EFR First Aid course within the last 24 months.
  • Hold an official medical certificate no older than 2 years.
  • Hold diving insurance (if you do not have one, we can arrange it).
  • Equipment: You need to have freediving mask, snorkel, fins, wetsuit and weight belt. You will also need a surface signalling device and a freediving computer.
