How is the course carried out?

The PADI Freediver course consists of three main phases:

  • Knowledge development on the fundamentals of freediving through independent study and with your instructor.
  • 1 confined water session to learn freediving techniques, as well as static and dynamic apnoea. Objective: 90-second static apnoea and 25-metre dynamic apnoea.
  • 2 open water sessions to practise free immersion and constant weight descents, as well as proper buddy procedures. Objective: constant weight freedive to 10 metres.
Indicative first day course programme:
  • 9:00 to 10:30 theory review
  • 11:00 to 13:00 confined water
  • 15:00 to 17:00 open water
  • 17:30 to 18:30 video viewing
Indicative second day course programme:
  • 9:00 to 10:00 stretching
  • 10:00 to 12:30 open water
  • 12:30 video viewing
PADI Basic Freediver Course

Course requirements

  • Be 15 years of age (12 years for Basic Freediver).
  • Be able to swim.
  • Hold an official medical certificate no older than 2 years.
