The PADI Tec 45 course is the second part of the complete PADI Tec Deep Diver programme. You will extend your depth limit to 45 metres and learn to plan and carry out successive decompression dives using a single decompression cylinder. You will wear full technical equipment, which can be backmount or sidemount.

You will also carry out accelerated decompression dives using EANx or pure oxygen. This is a course where you will rise to the challenge and accept the commitment of becoming a technical diver.
There is also the option for divers to obtain a Tec 45 Trimix Diver certification.

What will you learn?

PADI Tec 45 Course
Your Tec 45 training consists of 7 knowledge development sections, 4 practical application sessions and 4 open water dives. Building on what you learned in the Tec 40 course, you will focus on additional techniques, procedures and emergency skills. You will learn more advanced decompression, gas planning, decompression models and sharpen your thinking as a technical diver. Tec 45 Trimix students will also learn about trimix diving.
  • You will develop your skills and become more thoroughly familiar with the equipment needed to dive to a depth of 45m.
  • You will plan and carry out dives to 45m depth.
  • You will plan and carry out single and successive decompression

What equipment will you use?


You will use the complete technical diving equipment including harness, backplate and wing set, twinset and an additional decompression cylinder. Alternatively you can use a technical sidemount configuration. You will become thoroughly familiar with the mandatory diving equipment for your technical diving adventures.

Tec 45 Trimix option


Are you curious about the benefits of using Trimix gas, such as decreased gas density and reduced narcosis? Tec 45 divers can also learn to use trimix with no less than 21 per cent oxygen and no more than 35 per cent helium.

Course requirements

  • Be 18 years of age.
  • Hold the PADI Advanced Open Water certification or an equivalent certification from another organisation.
  • Hold the PADI Rescue Diver certification or an equivalent certification from another organisation.
  • Hold the PADI Enriched Air (NITROX) certification or an equivalent certification from another organisation.
  • Hold the PADI Deep Diving certification or an equivalent certification from another organisation.
  • Hold the PADI Tec 40 certification or an equivalent certification from another organisation.
  • Hold an official medical certificate no older than 2 years.
  • Hold specific diving insurance for technical diving (if you do not have one, we can arrange it).
  • Have a minimum of 50 logged dives, of which at least:
    • 12 dives to more than 18m depth
    • 6 dives to more than 30m depth
